2016 was a rough year for advertisers and their ad campaigns.
This charcoal brand claimed that their product sparks so fast that an insect sitting on the coals would be incinerated before it could fly away. Not only is the claim unappetizing, it turned out to be false. The ad is simply not appealing because it implies that bugs will be flying around your grill.
It’s not the script that fails in this ad, it’s the obnoxious hyper-consumerism pushed by American Express. All it really does it encourage unnecessary spending, and even Tina Fey’s lighthearted humor couldn’t save this commercial.
Facebook flooded a few train stations with their signature reaction icons alongside user-submitted casual photos. Rather than promoting the Facebook brand, it translated as a dehumanizing metaphor of Facebook taking over our lives.
