Get ready to go green with the 2017 color of the year.
Color forecasters at the Pantone Color Institute have announced the new 2017 color of the year: “greenery.” Parija Kavilanz of CNN Money shares insights behind the decision and what it means for next year’s trends.
Laurie Pressman, Vice President of Pantone Color Institute, describes the hue as “a fresh and zesty yellow-green shade that evokes the first days of spring when nature’s greens revive, restore and renew.” It was chosen because it represents rebirth and regeneration. The shade also represents the growing movement around protecting the environment.
Pantone’s global team typically studies trends in fashion, consumer products, technology, and social media over the course of the year. Their color choice reflects those influences and the current mood of society. Sometimes it isn’t limited to one color. In 2016, Pantone selected both baby blue and dusty pink. This year, green has been popular among fashion runways, makeup, and even cars.
With this new color selection, brands will want to hop on the trend with their packaging, products, and designs.
