The presidential race is in full swing. With the election just days away, Twitter helps politicians raise money.
Recently, a study was conducted to suggest a correlation between Twitter and campaign donations. The data collected proves a strong correlation, according to the article, “Twitter to Politicans: We Help You Get Money”, by Alex Fitzpatrick. “98 percent of Twitter users exposed to political tweets are more like than other users to visit a campaign donation page.” Of course, not all visitors will make a donation, but the increased traffic boosts campaign donations. Tweeting frequently also helps to increase site traffic and donations. For donations, Twitter helps politicians raise money for their candidacy. Compared to the average tweeter, 130 percent of users are more likely to visit a donation site after seeing a post in their stream.
Social media is a great platform for creating awareness and increasing donations. With social media continuously maturing, it will be interesting to compare the affects during the 2016 election.
