Amazon integrates Facebook into their online marketplace.
Now, Amazon integrates Facebook and allows users to do countless things with their profiles. For example, users can find recommendations for movies, music, and other products based on Facebook profiles. They can also see upcoming birthdays, create Amazon Wish Lists, create gift suggestions for friends based on their Facebook profiles, and explore Facebook profiles to find people with similar interests.
So what does all this mean for eCommerce shopping behaviors? A recent article on HubSpot describes a few ways this new Amazon/Facebook integration will affect eCommerce shopping habits and how it will force competitors to follow suit. One of the main affects from this integration will be an increased exposure to new products. This new integration will dig into profiles and provide recommendations for purchases based on interests and “likes.” Many of these products will undoubtedly be new to customers.
Another impact of this integration on eCommerce habits should be an increase in purchases during holidays and birthdays. Users will be able to create wish lists that can be shared with their friends on Facebook, and Amazon will automatically create gift suggestions for users’ friends based on their Facebook profiles. Of course, Amazon hopes this will boost sales – but it can be quite a practical tool for all users, removing the stress of trying to find the perfect gift for friends or loved ones.
